Tragedy In Cyprus : Munition facilities explode demolishing Naval Base

Today, the naval base of Evangelos Florakis in Cyprus was blown to bits due to explosions emanating from about 98 poorly maintained ammunition storage facilities.

Twelve 12 people were killed and many injured including the base naval commander Ioannidis, who had warned of the poor maintenance procedures time after time, but to no avail.

The Cypriot Minister of Defense resigned along with the Minister of the Cypriot National Guard.

The explosion affected towns in a 12 km radius and totally disintegrated the local electrical power plant at Vasilikos, rendering a large portion of the area without alternative energy sources.

More information is currently being collected, and a list of the departed will be posted here once it is properly authorized.
