Indian American Economics Professor Arrested in Athens

An Indian professor was accidentally arrested yesterday in Athens by Greek police during a roundup of illegal immigrants in the center of the city.

The professor, who teaches in the US but is of Indian origin, was on his way to his hotel when he was spotted by Greek police and taken to one of the detaining police stations. The professor did not at that time have his passport or any identification papers.

The Indian professor, who was an invited lecturer at the National Economics School of Greece (ASOE) was released immediately after the Dean of the Economics department intervened and explained the situation.
